Travian Hint: Defending against catapults

by: Galleon | category: Travian Hint | No Comments

The most basic defense is pretty simple: defense units in the village. Getting enough reinforcements to intercept the attacks would neutralize the damage the catapults would otherwise do.

Wave Splitting

However, you can still defend against catapults with only a few units, that would have otherwise been destroyed by the attacker’s cleaning wave. You can perform what is known as wave splitting – inserting defense into a village between the army and some of the catapult waves. This can be done with the help of the rally point’s timer, which specifies the time of arrival of a reinforcement, if sent at the very moment. This is also called inserting. Note that attacks which are the same second happen in the order in which they are launched. If there are 5 waves incoming at you, 2 of them (including the cleaning army) at :44 past the minute and the rest at :45 past the minute, be sure to make the reinforcements arrive at :44. If this is succesful, the waves at :45 would engage your defenses. Because one usually sends nearly all units in the cleaner for combat efficiency, even a minor defense can destroy those catapults.

Palace/Residence

The palace or the residence provides a minor defense value of 2*level^2. This is no problem for an army, however, if the attacker is not clever enough to destroy the building in the cleaning wave, and if your residence is high enough, all of the subsequent waves of catapults might suffer casualties, even without any defending units. This of course depends on any minor escort units the attacker sends and the quantity of catapults.

Bonuses

The actual damage that catapults deal depends on many variables. The Stonemason can increase the durability of buildings to up to 300%. This means that it would take three times as much catapults to do the same damage as would be done otherwise.

Upgrading catapults in the Blacksmith also upgrades their power, by up to 50%. This is highly efficient for large numbers of catapults, and upgrading increases the strength without additional crop consumption.

Very small players also receive a durabity bonus as compensation. This bonus, at its greatest reach, is equivalent to that of the Stonemason at level 20.

Travian Hint :

Using unupgraded catapults to destroy a small player with a level 20 stonemason can be very tiresome.
